Hidalgo: No one in Barcelona expected Messi to be so good

Former Barcelona winger Christian Hidalgo has said that no one at the club expected Lionel Messi to become one of the best players in history when he first left the academy.

The Argentine star has been part of the Catalan club since he was only 13 years old and has gone from one of the most promising talents in the world of football to one of the best players in the history of football.

Hidalgo had been part of Barcelona at the same time as Messi and says no one at the club could have predicted that Messi would win the Ballon d’Or six times.

“Leo was a great talent. “Everyone at the club knew he would one day become a very good player,” said Hidalgo.

“But the best in history?” No. No one could have predicted this. Leo’s achievements are unique. He was very shy, very introverted.

“He talked only when needed. As he played more and scored more goals, he came out of his shield a little bit and made fun of us more.”
