Milan have reportedly left captain Alessio Romagnoli on hold for a new contract. The Red and Blacks have set other priorities before renewing their captain’s contract.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport writes that Milan decided to postpone the negotiations with Romagnoli. As his current contract is valid until June 2022.
However, San Siro executives are aware that they will have to start negotiations with the central defender soon. Otherwise the story of Gianluigi Donnarumma could be repeated.
The Italian goalkeeper’s contract expires next summer and the club has not yet managed to persuade him to sign a new contract. Moreover, many clubs are already interested in his transfer.
Like Donnarumma, Romagnoli has played a key role in the Milan squad this season. Due to his importance as captain, Milan was expected to act faster in renewing the 25-year-old’s contract, which did not happen.
